The New Moon on December 30 at 5:26 pm at 9 Capricorn
connects us with the promise of the coming year and the promises we will make to ourselves.
There is something we are to close out and leave behind so we can give our attention fully and generously to the road ahead. We are to take stock of what transpired over recent months. Hindsight brings new understandings, and the information needed to make adjustments to future plans. Exercising acceptance and forgiveness helps us come to terms with where life has brought us and can attune us to the larger design of story unfolding in our life journey.
The Capricorn New Moon marks a time of endings and beginnings, compelling us to address long-term aspirations. We are to diffuse and not amplify dynamics that aggravate feelings of powerless or in patterns that trap us in a power struggle. Feeling the losses of last year, we can grieve, forgive and release the old so are free to ring in the new. Clarifying goals and commitments helps to focus our energy so we can effectively tend to our heart's desire.

The New Moon is the optimal time each month to set an intention for what we want to manifest over the next month. There is 24-hour window after the exact moment of the New Moon when the Moon is still dark and not yet visible in our night sky. This is the time to plant the seed that we will nurture and grow in the weeks that follow. The annual Capricorn New Moon is the optimal time to set goals for the year, commonly known as New Year’s Resolutions.
Capricorn, an earth sign, wants results and is willing to put in the work to achieve them. Like a chess player, we are to mentally explore the various potentialities that can arise from a given move we are contemplating making. It serves us to take the time to think things through and to apply some strategic thinking. The Capricorn new Moon is beginning point of each year and the time to contemplate that first move that will give rise and shape to the year that dawns. Asking ourselves key questions helps clarify goals and our approach to realizing them. We can ask:
When I look back on 2025:
What will I say I created with the year?
How did I show up in the world?
What responsibilities and commitments did I fulfill that led to having the life I wanted?

If you want to be happy,
set a goal that commands your thoughts,
liberates your energy
and inspires your hopes.

Eye on the Target
Facies conjunct the New Moon
The New Moon illuminates the fixed star Facies, the Eye of the celestial Archer. With the Centaur's four feet planted firmly on the earth, he grounded and sure of his footing. His gaze is upward, focused on some point far in the distance. His bow is drawn. The arrow that is poised to be released is aimed at the Galactic Center. The Archer's Eye is focused and steady as it has locked in on the point in our universe that streams potentials that seem as if from nowhere. What holds our gaze? Removing distractions and zeroing in on our desired goal will help us define priorities and shape decisions on how we are to best move forward.
Taking Care of Business
New Moon Ruler: Saturn
Saturn Sextile the New Moon.
Saturn’s commanding presence at the New Moon supports our growth and is helping to stabilize new endeavors we are visualizing. Saturn in Pisces is also prompting us to identify what needs to be phased out and left behind. There may be a commitment or a project we had every intention on seeing through that is no longer viable or worth pursuing. As we let it go, we are to forgive ourselves or life for how things turned out.
Apex of Fixed T-Square with Mercury and Jupiter
Saturn is helping us to hold the perspective that "everything we have experienced has been timely and has made us who we are today and there is no way this process could have been rushed, for we cannot push time nor can we ever miss what is destined for us… Saturn wants to make sure we are on track with our soul's unique evolutionary journey, for there are certain things we’ve come here to experience and to create, " wrote Mystic Mama of Saturn's presence at the New Moon.
Saturn has returned to the 14 degree point of Pisces where it was last April when Mars conjoined Saturn, initiating a 2-year challenge. There is something we have been working with since that time, something we are already aware of that begs resolution. We grow and mature through meeting and overcoming obstacles. With the T-Square in mutable signs, part of the challenge we face is to find a balance between standing strong and exercising adaptability.
Identifying the house or houses Pisces occupies in our natal chart can illuminate the area(s) of life where care needs to be taken to finish up or release something. It may be an area where we have procrastinated or put something off, but we now have the insight or inclination to do what needs to be done. There may be something we have held onto psychologically that we can now release. We are looking for closure and to find peace. With this comes perspective on our evolutionary journey and a mature understanding that helps us to accept the timing of how things have unfolded. New developments and big shifts in this area of our life are likely in the second half of 2025.
Saturn square Jupiter (August 2024 – June 2025). The tension between the planet of restraint and caution (Saturn) and the planet of expansion and possibility (Jupiter) can have us confused about whether to use the brake or the gas pedal in relation to some aspect of our life. The impulse to stabilize and reinforce what we have is equal to the desire to expand into the vision we have for ourselves. There is something we are ready to grow and something that needs to be pruned from our lives, but we lack the clarity or information as to which or projects or areas of our life are ready for growth, and which are not. Rather than force clarity and action, we can embrace the tensions and lean into the questions we have. The full resolution of this tension will arrive early summer and we can trust the timing and the journey we are to take to arrive at the clarity we seek.
Jupiter in Gemini is in mutual reception with Mercury in Sagittarius, meaning both planets are in the sign that the other rules. There is a resonance between them which stimulates our thoughts and curiosity. There is a restlessness that can compel us to study something new, engage in conversations where information can be exchanged, or opening ourselves to online programming that can instruct and inform. Saturn square to these two planets helps to have us focus on the things that matter and not to be indiscriminate about what information and conversations and self-talk we consume.
Saturn square Mercury amplifies analytical and critical thinking. We easily zero in on the flaws, on what is not working, or does not seem feasible. We are sorting through details surrounding a larger issue (as Mercury emerges from the shadow of its recent retrograde) that we have been working through. Saturn helps ground thought, allowing us to give due consideration to each detail or piece of information rather than just racing from one to the next. Rather than getting caught in a loop of overthinking things or letting our thinking become scattered, Saturn helps us to focus on what has been learned, where we need to assume accountability, and how what transpired may be exactly what was needed for us in our soul's journey.

It’s easy to come up with new ideas;
the hard part is letting go of
what worked for you two years ago,
but will soon be out of date.
Empowerment Comes from Within
A Mystic Rectangle
A Mystic Rectangle is comprised of two parallel trines connected by two sextiles. Within the rectangle are two oppositions that connect the opposite corners. The configuration expresses a robust potential for us to use our gifts and talents to resolve something that troubles us.
Mars oppose Pluto (November 2024 through April 2025) has three exact oppositions: Nov 3, 2024, January 3, 2025 and April 27, 2025. The energy is divisive, challenging and volatile., Intense feelings that have been repressed demand resolution and can erupt without warning. Fixed in an opinion or perspective, we can find ourselves in a battle of wills with someone who opposes us or stands in our way.
This is the first time in our lives that Mars in Leo faces off with Pluto in Aquarius. Pluto creates transformative change for the evolution of the collective. With Mars in Leo, we feel it is important to stand up for our individual rights or expression. Pressure to yield to some authority or circumstance stirs intense feelings. There is tremendous potential to transform entrenched beliefs around our powerlessness if we don’t dig in our heels or have reinforce them by engaging in a fruitless power struggle. Fantastic creative power can be released if we channel the heat of our anger in a constructive way. An internal shift in our belief systems about a person or circumstance can result in a circumstance or relationship shifting in a seeming miraculous way.
The Nodes of Fate, which are in a perpetual opposition, are in their final days of their 18-month occupation of the Libra/Aries axis. We have been identifying and releasing patterns of codependency that we have previously justified using in order to keep the peace or make another happy. We see with clarity that habitual ways we overextend or overly compromise have diminished our confidence and self-esteem. We are prepared to authentically communicate and express what is true for us and risk conflict in a relationship. We are to apply the communication and relationship skills we have learned over time to create a win/win outcome, but silencing or minimizing ourselves as part of our strategy has become less and less an option that makes any sense.
The two oppositions of the Mystic Rectangle (explored above) compel us to resolve issues we have with others. Both oppositions point to looking within to generate change. Wanting others to change or demanding they see things our way will only result, at this time, in greater tension and misery. Similarly, compromising who we are to please another or gain their approval will also end in us feeling the loser. There is a newfound potential to stand in our sovereignty and not need others or the world to validate who we are, how we see things, or what we want. We have a strength of self to unlock rigid beliefs around our powerlessness and have developed a capacity to stand with ourself in a way we previously struggled to do. Reinforcing the sense of our sovereignty, our ability to govern our lives, will help us grasp the bigger picture of where we have arrived and give us the clarity to shape the plans that will launch us into a new chapter and new year in our lives.
