Gemini New Moon: Nourish the Intellect

 [A] mind, once stretched

by a new idea, never regains

its original dimensions.

Oliver Wendell Holmes

Gemini New Moon: New Information leads to greater understanding

The New Moon on June 6, 2024, at 16 Gemini brings a surplus of intellectual and creative potential that catalyzes inspired understanding and the dawning of new ideas.

We are curious to learn or experience something new. Thoughts and communications can stimulate and nourish our mind, opening up new horizons to explore. Yet, if we are not sitting in the driver’s seat of this quick-moving mercurial energy and instead let it drive us, we can find ourself mentally scattered and exhausted. There is ample opportunity to distract and gorge ourself on news, social media, superficial conversations and activities that deplete rather than enliven. Fortunately, there is a built-in sense of restraint with the square of Saturn to the New Moon that compels us to consider the diet we are feeding our mind and the thoughts and words we in turn feed the world.

Within 24 hours of the New Moon is the optimal time each month to set an intention for what we will initiate and grow in the coming month. The area of life primed for a new beginning is revealed by the nature of the house in our natal charts where 16 degrees Gemini resides. The house will also cue us as to what area of life we can expect to be busy and active.

but those who cannot learn,

Youthful Exuberance and Optimism

Stellium in Gemini

Multiple planets are convening in Gemini (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter) which serves to supercharge the Gemini signature of the New Moon. As a mutable air sign, Gemini is the intellectual mind, social and curious about what it can learn or experience in the moment.  We may feel more youthful, less jaded, as we ponder possibilities over the next couple weeks. Mentally, we may feel sharper, more articulate than usual.

Venus conjunct the New Moon. We are more likely to find rapport and work well with others. There is fertile ground for artistic endeavors We may write a poem, make music, or be creative in in the words we select to express an idea.

June is likely to be active and busy and our calendar may be filled up. Our New Moon intention can focus on how we would like to connect with others in activities that may include

Lively Conversation. We are inclined to be more expressive, and more articulate. There is an impulse to socialize, exchange information and discuss ideas.

Experiencing Something New. There is an impulse to break out of routine and expand our horizons. We may wish to try out a new restaurant, read a book that opens our mind, or sign up for a class on a topic we have been wanting to understand more deeply.

Taking Short Trips. A weekend getaway where we take a drive to the mountains or beach may be just what we need. Day to day, the Gemini energy of June is likely to show up as running multiple errands or driving about town for one reason or another.

Engaging New ideas and ConceptsWe are more flexible than usual, willing to see different perspectives. We can be enriched by considering information that has us see something from another point of view. We are likely to keep tabs on multiple topics, looking to keep ourself abreast of new information and knowledge that comes available. Inspired by some new idea, we may elect to take action and make something happen that can be completed in a short time frame.

The Shadow of so much Gemini

Countering the Tendency to Scatter our Energies. We can find ourself jumping from one thing to the next without completing what we began. Gemini can have us going in multiple directions simultaneously. To counter the Gemini tendency to scatter our focus, we are

Countering the Tendency for Superficial Engagement. We can easily bounce from one thing to the next, skating on the surface of each topic. We want to be intentional about the information we absorb and how we use social media. Gemini rules social media, the soundbite and the cocktail party. Gemini is the social butterfly and the Influencer. If we let the Gemini energy have its way, we will indiscriminately interact with a plethora of people, topics and information with little to show for it except a mental hangover from having gorged ourself on smorgasbord of information. We may feel we are having a great time, but when we disengage, we find ourself depleted and none the wiser for not having been more selective with our time and attention.

Countering the Tendency for Mental Overload. We reap the biggest reward from this New Moon if we practice mindfulness - aware of our breath and our thought processes while looking to be fully present with each thing we engage. Because our rational mind is so stimulated, it is easy to get caught in our head and so giving ourself to a daily exercise can help us ground and come into our body.

Discernment and Focus

New Moon square Saturn

Saturn’s presence serves to ground the Gemini spirit, much like a kite string tethers the kite to the earth, preventing it from being swept away with the wind.  There may be delays or frustrations that emerge. They will serve to slow us down, ground us and deepen our consideration of the tasks needed to smooth out the way forward.

Ever the pragmatist, Saturn brings us back to what is essential, to the big picture and our responsibilities. We may feel the need to rein in our exuberance for social interaction so that it serves and doesn’t distract us from our commitments. Rather than multitasking or overloading our calendar with activity, we are supported in handling things one at a time and discerning what is a useful focus and what is a needless distraction.

New Patterns of Thinking

New Moon Ruler: Mercury conjunct Jupiter

The ruler of the New Moon is strengthened in its own sign of Gemini, further emphasizing the focus on intellectual stimulation and nourishment. There is a hunger to communicate, absorb new facts and information, increase our technical knowhow, and travel to new places. There is a sharpness and quickness to our thinking. We may find ourselves being witty, clever or charming. Our mind is more flexible and curious, able to engage words, and technology in a playful manner.

Wisdom of Thought

Jupiter trine Pluto

Jupiter in Gemini (May 25, 2024 to June 9, 2025).  As soon as Jupiter entered Gemini last week, it encountered a trine with Pluto. The trine is in effect the month of June fueling the acceleration of AI integration into society, and growth in communication and media systems.

We are to grow our communication skills and open new pathways to share what we know.  New perspectives will yield new patterns of thinking and a more expanded way of perceiving the world will have us perceiving opportunities we did not see before. New knowledge and collaboration can inspire a shift in how we envision and carry out systems of social media, education, transportation and travel.

For the collective, and in our own lives, we will be exploring the potential of the human mind. Giving due consideration to the power of our thoughts and thought patterns, we can adjust how we direct and use our mind. And we are to appreciate the power of speech and the privilege of living in a society that has ‘freedom of speech.’ By honoring and cherishing this 'right', we will collectively move towards acknowledging that toxic dialogue, the public denigration of others, and the willful spreading of false information is a violation of this right.

Beginning this month, but gaining more and more momentum for the next two years, we will experience an ever-increasing influx of communications and information coming towards us. The propensity for increased campaigns of misinformation and willful deception is on the rise. We are learning how to discern propaganda from fact, opinion from knowledge-based assertions, and false information from truth.

Further development of AI and its integration into our daily lives will happen sooner than we imagine. In many cases, it is because of what AI generates that we will experience a barrage of information and new systems of knowledge to be learned. Jupiter in Gemini helps us to align with the wisdom within thought and the truth within information so we can make informed choices about what to take in and how to discern the value of the knowledge at our fingertips.

Knowledge Dispels Deception

Fixed Star Rigel conjunct the New Moon

Rigel is the 7th brightest star in the sky and is located at the left foot of Orion. The star is associated with the desire to learn and to teach others. In Egyptian mythos, Orion is the Pharoah, and the star Rigel receives the protection of the Pharaoh for the purpose of civilizing the people.  Rigel is the educator. It seems timely that the New Moon illuminates this star which sees education as a key component of a healthy society. The New Moon can support an inspired vision for how to address an education system in breakdown.

Rigel's presence reminds us that we do not think or speak in isolation. Our thoughts and words ripple out and effect the whole. Rigel bestows protection to the one who actively seeks to dispel the social trend that allows for misinformation, propaganda and the public denigration of people to flood our airwaves. Rigel empowers us to hold an intention to educate ourselves and each other. And with this intention, to speak and spread the truth-filled information and knowledge that is in our care.
