Pisces New Moon: Open to Grace

Updated: Aug 27

How surely gravity’s law, strong as an ocean current,

takes hold of even the strongest thing

and pulls it toward the heart of the world.

Each thing – each stone, blossom, child – is held in place.

Only we, in our arrogance, push out beyond what we belong to

for some empty freedom.

If we surrendered to earth’s intelligence

we could rise up rooted, like trees.

Instead we entangle ourselves in knots of our own making

and struggle, lonely and confused.

So, like children, we begin again to learn from the things,

because they are in God’s heart;

they have never left him.

This is what the things can teach us:

to fall, patiently to trust our heaviness.

Even a bird has to do that before he can fly.

Rainer Maria Rilke

invites us to Welcome Grace

Pisces is the last sign and, in some ways, the first - the place where everything returns and the place from where everything will emerge. As the last sign of the zodiac, it speaks of endings, a dissolving of definitions, where there can be pure connection with the primordial creative energy that inspires and nurtures all beginnings. The Pisces New Moon each year marks the end of a cycle and invites us to release something, allowing some area of our life to come to completion, much like a snake shedding its skin. In the release, the emptying out, a space is created for something new to quicken and enter our lives.

Pisces is one of three water signs:

Cancer is The Ocean

Scorpio is the Depths of the Ocean where the sun doesn’t reach

Pisces is the Cosmic Waters, formless and pregnant with potential. It is the realm of inspiration, divine connection, and the mystical experience with the oneness of all life. The oceans and the earth, the mountains and the seasons, the sun and moon, our children and our great grandparents, and all life arise from this primordial womb of becoming.

The Pisces New Moon reminds us to connect with our eternal roots, the roots that go deep into the pulse of the creative and eternal universe. In this connection, we can be inspired and rejuvenated. Aligning with the rhythms of the universe, we can recognize how little we understand and there is so much more going on than what we see. From a stance of humility, we can receive the guidance we are needing.

We are urged to drink deep of the Piscean waters to nurture our compassion, creativity and intuition. If we can let go of what we think we know and open up to the wisdom of nature and the divine, we can be gifted with a vision, a message, a dream in our sleep, or a creative burst that can guide and illuminate a new way of engaging our life. We can discover deeper truths, a higher perspective, or have flashes of profound insight (the New Moon’s being amplified by its conjunction with Jupiter and its sextile to Uranus).

Rather than telling the universe how we want it to serve us, and asking that it bow to our wishes, we can recognize that perhaps there is something that it may wish to gift us beyond anything we could imagine to ask of it. If we recognize that we are not as in control or in charge of our lives as much as we may think, we can take ourselves less seriously. In this space, we are invited to take a break, relax, be less engaged in the activities of the world, and become fascinated with what is happening within us.

As a water sign, Pisces invites us to feel. If we accept the New Moon invitation, we can feel more clearly the rhythm of nature, the teeming energies that will soon bring us another spring, the rhythm of a bird’s flight, the quiet pulse of a tree's growth, and our soul’s yearning that propels our life. We, then, open to grace and to the unnamed blessings that await us. It is less about being able to articulate the plan or see the path ahead, and more about feeling the flow of how things are moving and, in so doing, join the current. In this process, our faith is nurtured and renewed.

We are to slow down and become quiet within ourselves. As we release what we think we know and let go of something we have been carrying that weighs us down, we come into the empty space. We can feel we have entered a void. Rather than be afraid of it, we can befriend the feeling of emptiness and not compulsively try to fill it with entertainment, conversation, food or other diversions. By entering the void, we enter that realm where all beginnings and all new life first emerges, where something eternally emerges from nothing.

If we do not slow down, do not release and open to inspiration, and do not make room for what is emerging within us, we may feel confused, disoriented or overwhelmed. The shadow side of Pisces is indecisiveness, feeling powerless or victimized, and being open to deception. This can occur at this time if we downplay or do not make room for our sensitivity and feeling nature. So, if we find ourselves confused and befuddled, slow down. Something is brewing beyond what we see and know. Create a quiet and open space, a void of time that cannot be accounted for, and allow for the experience of emptiness and perhaps longing. More will be happening in this space than we might imagine.

If you want God to close and open doors,

Let go of the door knob.

In the midst of what is stirring within us, all the planets are moving forward indicating we are to move forward with plans, decisions and the creating of our lives. The night sky is revealing a paradox here of going inward and simultaneously moving outward. We may feel a strong intuitive impulse to move forward with some activity or plan in our lives, even if we don’t yet see the pieces of how it will all work. We may be called out of ourselves to deal with a relationship dynamic or to resolves some issue. Planetary alignments surrounding the Pisces New Moon are generating intensity, tension and growth within our daily lives. They are further shaping and coloring the message and invitation of the Pisces New Moon.

Each of the Personal Planets are Conjoined with an Outer Planet

The personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) are what is personal to us. Conjoined an outer planet, we are experiencing friction and growth.

While our feelings and intuition are being heightened (Jupiter conjunct Sun and Moon), we are also experiencing:

*A passionate engagement with how we define responsibility (Mars conjunct Venus in Capricorn)

*A possible surge of focus and willpower to commit to a goal and be unwavering in meeting it (Mars in its full exultation at 27 Capricorn).

*Increased intensity opens us to transforming relationship dynamics to better match who we are becoming. We are exploring how to heal, uplift and harmonize the relationship between the feminine and masculine energies within ourselves and in our relationships. We may be experiencing a 'power play' in a relationship that reveals a pattern of powerlessness in relation to authorities or those who seem to hold more power than us so that we can address and shift the pattern. (Mars, Venus conjunct Pluto)

*Our thoughts are on the serious side, focused clarifying and defining the specifics of our next steps. Our mind is slowing down to conceptualize the way forward, to hone in, clarify and figure out the intuitive impulses and messages we are receiving. Our mind is not deciding the direction, but looking to articulate the movement we are feeling. The shadow side of this energetic, is an inclination for our ego mind to seize control and want to control the environment around us. If we are feeling stressed trying to make something happen, it is the moment to open to the Piscean invitation to quiet and open ourselves to the deeper movement of what is unfolding. (Mercury conjunct Saturn in Aquarius).

In Conclusion:

Contemplating the Piscean New Moon coupled with the conjunctions happening to the personal planets, we can see that there is a push forward that is coming from something beyond the perception of our physical senses. We are encouraged to be curious, to surrender and to listen. We are to find a deepened trust in the impulse of life, of our soul’s evolutionary movement, of the eternal creative flow of creation moving through each of us as it moves through nature, the planet and all creation.

There is something unfolding in our lives and on the world stage that is much bigger than what we can comprehend. As me move through March and into April, the Piscean gifts of inspiration, spiritual awakening, creative flow, and divine revelation become more and more potent. It is beneficial at this New Moon to make an intention to open to it, to provide a space that welcomes it into our lives.
